Is there a ferry that can take me to Seward (or near Seward), Alaska from Washington, one-way?

Question by Lily: Is there a ferry that can take me to Seward (or near Seward), Alaska from Washington, one-way?
I can’t seem to find a ferry route that can get me there. Oh, and it doesn’t matter which city I leave WA from, or if I have to make port along the way and switch ferries. Also I’d need to know which ferry venue to use. Thanks(:

The ferry leaves from Bellingham. The closest to Seward that I could see you could get to on the ferry was Homer which was a 4 hour drive away.

I’d like to see the glacier first of all…I’d like to go in the summer…Would it be cheaper than a regular cruise?

I’m not quite sure about what you’re asking. Are you saying that you’d like to come to Alaska on your own (no cruise) and book tours yourself? Well, right now cruises are dirt cheap b/c the economy is so down right now. Normally a cruise is super expensive, but now that might actually be your best bet for the ’09-10 cruising season.

There are plenty of touring companies in Alaska. I live in Alaska, and tourism is our “bread and butter.” If you want to book a tour on your own, do your homework and compare prices first. Hope this helps! 😉

I would recommend Royal Caribbean or Carnival for a cruise. With a cruise, you can catch some great tours when you go to the different cities of Alaska. Check with vacationstogo.com This site will tell you everything you want to know from the number of cabins on the ship, to the weather at each port that the ship stops, to the tours that are available.

What steps do I take to become a dentist in Alaska?

Question by ambermarie.: What steps do I take to become a dentist in Alaska?
I would like to become a dentist, veeery much. But I want to stay in Alaska. I am planning to either go to the University of Alaska Anchorage or the University of Alaska Southeast in Juneau. Does anybody know what exactly I’d need to do? The reason I’d like to stay in Alaska is mostly financial, plus I sort of like it here. Answers are very appreciated. 🙂

Go to the Alaska Marine Highway System web site and look at the schedule for Kodiak.
from the web….
“The Alaska Marine Highway System provides passenger and vehicle service to Kodiak and Port Lions aboard the M/V Tustumena or the M/V Kennicott from Homer or Whittier. Staterooms, full-service dining rooms, solarium and public shower are available. Make reservations well in advance, particularly if you plan to bring a vehicle. For reservations, call 800-642-0066. Also see the Alaska Marine Highway listing in the business directory for more information. ”

I don’t think that you can take a ferry from Washington State. What you can do, if you have a car, is ferry from Bellingham to Haines, then drive to Homer or Whittier. If you are not bringing a car, it will probably be cheaper to fly. If you are thinking that you want to bring a lot of stuff, like in your car or pulling a trailer, compare the cost of putting it on the ferry with sending it with a freight company from Seattle. There are freight consolidators who will ship your belongings by barge to Kodiak. Your best bet is to talk to whoever is hiring you and ask them for advice.
