Answer by petcreatures78
June and July. If you port in Ketchikhan during Independence Day, they give quite a show. August, the wet weather starts and May there’s still some snow.

I hear the Holland cruises are really good. The cheapest way to go is via the Ferry though.

alaska cruise?

Question by kerambit: alaska cruise?
After our Canadian Rockies package tour, we wish to go on a Alaska inside passage cruise. Where do you board the cruise in Vancouver and what is the best way to get there ? cab? C$? Which hotel would you recommend that we post stay after the cruise before our return flight home? nearer to airport or Vancouver town??

Best answer:

Answer by TINKERTOY ….. the one, the only, the original
The cruise port in Vancouver is right downtown. Its actually a cruise port and convention center. Your best bet is to take a taxi as carrying luggage on a public bus is prohibitive, even if you know the way. There are reasonably priced hotel in or near downtown, like about 0 US a day and a cab ride to the port will cost about to from the hotel.

Many inside passage cruises are one-way, meaning that the ship does not bring you back to Vancouver. So you need to be sure that your cruise does that if that’s what you want. Otherwise you will have to arrange to fly back home from Anchorage, or Fairbanks. OR, if you pick the cruise lines that start in Anchorage, fly there and then end your cruise in Vancouver. It is a long bus ride to the Vancouver airport from the cruise port. But your cruise ship can usually arrange a transfer for you to the airport (more expensive than doing your own) If you take a taxi you pay one far for two or three people; cruise ship transfers are generally like a person.

We were just in Vancouver and stayed at a Holiday Inn on Broadway which is easily accessible to the cruise port.

You can take a train down to Seward and check out the Sealife center, go on the Kenai Fjords and see some puffins, sea lions, whales, up close and personal. Go check out the glaciers or Denali… really, depending on when you’ll be up here and where you’re staying will determine what we have going on really. Check out ADN.com or TravelAlaska.com I hope you enjoy your stay!

Q&A: Alaska??????

Question by tryandgetoutalive: Alaska??????
I have worked in Alaska and seen much of the scenery but I have never been a resident. What makes Alaska as a state different than the rest of the states? Especially for someone wanting to move there. Anything would be very helpful.

Answer by Charlie Allison
Well one perk after living in Alaska for a couple of years is the PFD, an annual check that in the last few years has been around 00. You also get to live in the scenery, not just see it. Its hard to beat saying that you live in a postcard. If you don’t want to move the wild you could also move to one of the larger cities and work your way into a more rural area.

Question by Sweet P: What is the best cruise line that leaves from Seattle and tours Alaska?
I am looking for a cruise to take my son and daughter on, ages 14 and 17. They want to sea Alaska, and I would like to leave from Seattle, because it is in the US. I am wondering what the best cruise line is, that has fun activities such as Kayaking. The trip will be at the beginning of August, so I need to book fast!

Planning a land-sea Alaska tour in 2007. When is the best itme to go?

Best answer:

Answer by Beau R
I went in September 1999, and enjoyed it immensely. If you are female, be prepared to deal with outhouses, during the land portion of the trip. A bottle of hand sanitizer is recommended. As I told people it is a great place, and if I wasn’t too old and too married, I’d have stayed there.
