Question by sophie: What tours do you recommend for a cruise to Alaska?
I am going on a cruise to Alaska and i am wondering what tours would you recommend for me to go on. Also, do you think it is a better idea to order thetours on tehcruse or by phone b4 i go on the cruise

Answer by timetravler The white pass railroad is a must do in Skagway. You can book this before the cruise either with the cruise company or with the railroad itself. The main advantage of booking it through the cruise company is it picks you up right at the terminal/ If it is raining this is a big plus. I also like what is called the bike and brew. You go on a nice 9 mile bike ride and then they take you to the Alaskan beer brewery. This is in Juneau. Do not book the Mt Roberts tram because if it is rainy or very cloudy, then it is not worth it. But if it is clear, then this is pretty cool. You can get off the cruise ship, walk 1/4 mile and then go on the tram on your own and save a couple of dollars to boot. In Ketchikan I liked going on my own and walking to creek street where you can shop like crazy, see a fish ladder and maybe lots of salmon too. I’ve been on 3 cruises to Alaska with the last one this past May. You will love an Alaskan cruise.

Question by Raineenyte: What are the best day tours to take in Alaska?
There will be 4 adults and a child who will be 4 years old. We want to travel beginning to mid September of next year. What is the best day tour of Denali National Park? What is the best cruise for Kenai Fjords National Park? And how can I get a really good deal? Does anyone know about the Alaska toursaver? Any suggestions or tips will be much appreciated….

Answer by Anjie I would recommend Royal Caribbean or Carnival for a cruise. With a cruise, you can catch some great tours when you go to the different cities of Alaska. Check with vacationstogo.com This site will tell you everything you want to know from the number of cabins on the ship, to the weather at each port that the ship stops, to the tours that are available.

Question by Blueagle: Alaska Cruise and land tour- Is it better to book separate tours?
Any suggestions on who to deal with? We are thinking Princess Cruise followed with a 4 or 5 day land tour but are wondering if booking a separate land tour would be better than the cruise ship offers. We’re also looking for a great deal, money-wise. I’d like to fish the last day and bring fish home to the San Francisco bay area.

Answer by M W the excersions offered on the ship are priced higher then if you book them separatedly. i suggest u book your land tours separately. don’t book them on the ship. book them in advance thru the internet if possible.
Went to “Country Rode BMW” in Fairport, NY for a talk by Phil Freeman, of MotoQuest Tours in Alaska, about touring Alaska and what are the best roads. Phil’s talk was interesting to me because I always wanted to go to Alaska and Billmaa and Tracy are going there this summer (2011). MotoQuest has Tours in Alaska, New Zealand, Japan and other places. Question by vlanderbab: Need someone who has been on an Alaska cruise/tour recently to advise on mosquito problems and tours?
What works for mosquitos? Do they get on the ship in ports? Are there tour options in Fairbanks,Denali and the ports of Haines, Juneau and Ketchican that are less expensive than the ones offered by the cruise line?
Best answer:
Answer by Time travler Anything with DEET works great. I just used Off with no problems, but on my second cruise to Alaska this summer, I am considering one of the clip on things with a fan from Off. It is something new and would be nice to not have to put anything directly on your skin. I have never seen them get on the ship, but I’m sure it is possible. My favorite tour in Denali was the Homestead Husky tour that took us to Jeff Kings facility(4 time winner of the Ididerod). He is wonderful and treats you like a best friend. Oh, be sure to go to the Red Dog saloon in Juneau too.
