Go to the Alaska Marine Highway System web site and look at the schedule for Kodiak.
from the web….
“The Alaska Marine Highway System provides passenger and vehicle service to Kodiak and Port Lions aboard the M/V Tustumena or the M/V Kennicott from Homer or Whittier. Staterooms, full-service dining rooms, solarium and public shower are available. Make reservations well in advance, particularly if you plan to bring a vehicle. For reservations, call 800-642-0066. Also see the Alaska Marine Highway listing in the business directory for more information. ”

I don’t think that you can take a ferry from Washington State. What you can do, if you have a car, is ferry from Bellingham to Haines, then drive to Homer or Whittier. If you are not bringing a car, it will probably be cheaper to fly. If you are thinking that you want to bring a lot of stuff, like in your car or pulling a trailer, compare the cost of putting it on the ferry with sending it with a freight company from Seattle. There are freight consolidators who will ship your belongings by barge to Kodiak. Your best bet is to talk to whoever is hiring you and ask them for advice.

Question by brookeleis: How do I get people to understand that Alaska is part of Canada, not the United States?
People don’t believe that Alaska is part of Canada. Maybe by saying ok, look at the globe and look at where the land of Alaska is connected to. So Alaska is part of Canada, not the US.
LOOK AT THE GLOBE, DUH!!!

What is there to do in Alaska and Vancouver?

Question by Thing: What is there to do in Alaska and Vancouver?
I’m going on a seven day cruise to Alaska in August. The ship leaves out of Vancouver, so I will be in Vancouver for two days. I will be on land in Alaska for about 3 or 4 days. Can anyone give me suggestions on places to go and things to do?

Best answer:

Answer by Season with salt
I don’t know where your stop will be in Alaska, but I would think that the cruise director of the ship can point you to the best places to visit in your port-of-call. As for Vancouver, I’ve attached their tourism website for you.

Son stationed in Alaska and we want to visit him & end with a cruise, investigating how to get around and the alaska highway(ships) looks like a fun way to extend out cruise. Any recommendations

Unless you are traveling for the food and entertainment, the Alaska Marine Highway System (also known as the Alaska Ferry) is just as good as a cruise ship, more relaxed, and a lot cheaper. You can book a stateroom for comfortable sleep, bring snacks on board, and eat in the cafeteria. You will see the same scenery that is seen from the cruise ship, but a lot closer. If you want to take day trips (rafting, flightseeing, etc.) once you reach Juneau, Sitka or Ketchikan, you can do that with the same companies that the tour ship operators use. My suggestion would be to fly to wherever your son lives, have a nice visit, then take the ferries to some other towns. You can either do a round-trip boat ride, stopping in a few ports overnight if you want, and end up back in your son’s town, or you can do a one way and fly out of another town. I am guessing that your son is in Southeast Alaska. If so, don’t miss Sitka. If you can arrive there on a day when there are no cruise ships, it’s a bit less crowded, but it’s worth the visit anytime. Especially Sitka National Historical Park (aka Totem Park), the Russian Orthodox Cathedral, Old Harbor Books, and the local tribal house. A great town to walk around in.
