Alaska cruise/vacation with senior citizens and teenagers?

Question by Phillip S: Alaska cruise/vacation with senior citizens and teenagers?
We’re planning to go on a cruise to Alaska in June/July with 14 and 17 year olds kids and 75 year old grandparents. Grandfather will have trouble if there is too much walking.
We are looking at the Holland America Line. Not sure how that compares with other lines.
We’d like to go inland to Denali if possible, but not sure if that would be too hard or too much extra time.
Any info on if there are a number of teenagers that go on these cruises?
Any personal experiences you can share?

An alaska Cruise is the utmost! The scenery, the wildlife, and the time together.

Southeast Aalska (most folks refer to it as the Inside Passage) is a very different and unique part of Alaska, and with your plans to go into Alaska’s interior; you are paring with a great opportunity.

The Alaska trips tend to be geared more for the older crowd, once the younger set sees all that Alaska is, and they realize their cell phones really do work in the North, well things work themselves out. The cruise demographics are changing, and visitor profiles are changing with them.

Holland America is geared more toward the traditional cruising client. Princes is another good choice for cruising up North.

The difference is really in the size of the ship and number of passengers. Holland sails with three class of ships with passenger loads equating to: 1200, 1400, and 1800 for the largest ship. Princess steps up to 2800 passengers.

Each gives you a very high quality product.

For the Interior, especially Denali, make sure you look at going to the deepest part of the park, Kantishna. It is the end of the park road, offering great views of the mountain (weather permitting), and of course critters!

I am including the web site for my company which offers all of the above. We also offer a very inclusive program; meals, attractions, and much more. We also host travel seminars innearly all parts of the United States, and offer a free DVD for the asking showing what, and how we do things.

As an Alaska travel proffessional, I can assure you, you are headed in the right direction. Feel free to call our “800” number, and they will forward my personal cell number should you have any specific questions. We also provide references on request from previous travellers.

Thanks for thinking of Alaska!

What industries does texas and alaska have besides oil?

Question by Protect America from Republicans: What industries does texas and alaska have besides oil?
I have seen posts claiming that alaska and texas have the highest per capita income and lowest taxes.

If you take out the oil revenues those socialist states confiscate from the oil companies and all consumers who buy their gas, those sates are nothing but barren land.

What industries does alaska and texas have that are man-made?

Answer by TXlawman
The great state of Texas has a great deal more than oil in its revenue. Texas has one of the largest shipping ports in the US (Houston) where billions of dollars of merchandise is imported/exported monthly. We are the largest producer of beef cattle in the US. Largest producer of rice in the US, second only to Louisiana in the sugar cane market. three of the largest airlines are based in Texas, along with the largest hospital corporation in America. Texas has the largest sustainable pine Forrest’s for timber production. Texas has an enormous tourism and cruise ship industry. Not to mention commercial fishing and shrimp boat operations and much more

Golden Princess 2008 Alaska Cruise Ship Vacation Video

Our trip aboard the Golden Princess from Seattle to Juneau to Skagway to Ketchikan to Victoria and back to Seattle. It was a wonderful trip, especially the ride on the White Pass and Yukon Scenic Railway out of Skagway. I would highly recommend this trip.

Are there any cruises that tour Alaska in the winter?

Question by curious boy: Are there any cruises that tour Alaska in the winter?
I’ve always wanted to go to Alaska, particularly in the winter because of the northern lights, and I’ve been looking for future dates like maybe sometime in December or January, but I was unable to find any. Are there no available dates for the winter? Is it too cold? An off season?

Answer by Linda S
The latest month to take a cruise to Alaska would be October becasue after that the weather is too cold. But let me tell you, I did this cruise at the end of May and it was absolutely AMAZING. The scenery is breathtaking. There was 16 hours of daylight as the sun did not set until 11pm. When departing Hawaii for Alaska, can you bring home plants and fruits in your luggage?

Question by CliffS: When departing Hawaii for Alaska, can you bring home plants and fruits in your luggage?
I understand that there are restrictions for bringing plants and fruit to the mainland, but what about direct flights to Alaska? Alaska doesn’t have a multi-million dollar agricultural industry to protect, nor is it likely these pests will survive in this cold climate.

Best answer:

Answer by Patriotgal
No, you can’t do it. I had an apple in my luggage for a snack on the airplane and they picked it up on the scanner and made me get rid of it. The reason for this is there is a big fruit fly infestation problem in Hawaii. They can’t control it. They are trying to keep it from spreading beyond Hawaii. Yes, even in Alaska, you have fruit flies.

Attached below is an article about the fruit fly infestation and the measures to try to control it. Here’s an excerpt from the article:
“Because Hawaii has been infested since the late 1800s by a variety of exotic fruit flies, including medfly, melon fly, oriental fruit fly, and Malaysian fruit fly, the islands are an ideal location for developing and testing control methods. There is no chance of further spread and there are lots of fruit flies to control.”
